Christian Piers Betley is an internationally award-winning writer, producer and director and has worked in the commercial, film and television industry for over fourteen years.
Christian began his career in Denmark at Zentropa Entertainment, run by Lars Von Trier and producer Peter Aalbeck Jensen — one of the largest production companies in Scandinavia. After Zentropa, Christian was invited over to Dubai, where he helped set up Filmcorp, a production subsidiary of Filmworks LLC. At Filmcorp Christian developed & directed numerous commercials, some of which picked up international advertising and marketing awards.
From Dubai, Christian relocated to live in Vancouver, where he wrote the zombie/action movie ’13 Eerie’ for producer Don Carmody and E One Entertainment, starring Katharine Isabelle and Michael Shanks.
Christian developed and wrote ‘Forsaken’ which is now in ‘active development’ as an Australian-Canadian co-production. The script is based on the true story of the heroic rescue of Raphael Dinelli by Skipper Pete Goss in the Vendee Globe 1996 extreme sailing race; lead producers are James Vernon and Jonathan Vanger.
As a co-producer and writer Christian is working alongside producer Kevin DeWalt and Oscar winning director Roger Christian on a supernatural/science fiction movie set in Saskatchewan, Canada and assisting Minds Eye Entertainment and Telefilm, Canada on a dark thriller with action director Keoni Waxman.
Christian was awarded ‘Best Humanitarian’ screenwriter’s award at Monaco International Film Festival 2011 for his nonfiction South African screenplay ‘On Friday Hill’ and is now in talks with Canadian and US talent agencies to package the film as a UK-Canada-SA tri-party production.
Christian assists numerous feature projects from Canada and is currently working with Tony Papa on a book adaptation ‘Cold Clear Morning’, which has been developed by Bravo, Greenberg Foundation, Telefilm and BC Film and is now being scheduled and budgeted at Pope Productions Inc in Newfoundland, Canada.
Christian’s action drama ‘Split Decision’ has been picked up and optioned by producer Gary Howsam and Christian is currently completing a non-fiction screenplay family drama entitled ‘The Flying Welshman’, before he embarks upon a big budget 17th century swashbuckling fantasy set in rural France.
